Financial Intermediation in Livelihoods
This is an emerging area for Trust Microfin Network. TMN
would finance community based organizations (like producer
organizations, federations, etc.) and NGOs that venture into
loan based economic activities with or without technical
support from TMN.
Some initial activities in different sectors are given
below.
Dairy
TMN has financed a milk bulk
cooler to an organization which is collecting milk from
women managed milk collection centers set up in the
catchment area of one of our partner MFIs, where it is
providing loans for buffalos.
More such units would be
financed if the model succeeds in benefiting the poor people
in a sustainable way repaying and the loan is repaid from
the additional benefit from the bulk cooler.
Agriculture
Input output centers for farmers
TMN has provided loan to one
partner to set up agriculture common facility centre. The
center is providing seeds, fertilizers, small implements on
hire, technical inputs, etc. to farmers on cash and credit.
Thus farmers are getting microfinance for agriculture
operations, which is normally not possible through standard
Grameen Bank model of microfinance.
Farmer can take the inputs they require on credit and have
to pay at the end of the crop season.
Remittance
services to migrants
TMN has carried out a study of
financial services required by migrants. In future TMN would
start remittance services to migrants.
